Lilburn Tower
| << | ![]() Built in 1313 by Earl Thomas of Lancaster, Dunstanburgh was once the largest and grandest of England's castles and here we see the famous Lilburn Tower.
For many years it was believed that it was built as a defence against the Scots, but if so, it's site was poorly chosen. In fact it seems that it is here because Lancaster needed a showpiece as a backdrop to his dream of place that would never fully exist. A new Camelot. Keith Henson 18x11 inches |
